Jazz in Tallahassee
Feature Package
I chose jazz for my feature package because of its rich and often overlooked history in Tallahassee. My goal was to spotlight local individuals who continue to contribute to the enduring influence of jazz in Florida’s capital. I hope this package serves as an introduction to the diverse cultural histories that can be discovered in Tallahassee. Additionally, I created a supplemental article that offers a student's perspective on their involvement in jazz, providing further context and depth to the individuals featured in the original package.
This being my first package, it was a valuable learning experience. I encountered challenges in securing interviews with individuals willing to speak on the issue, and due to time constraints, I was only able to interview one resident of Tallahassee. In my supplemental article, I provide a more in-depth analysis of the specific insurance policies that are increasing and explore the reasons why local residents are being impacted.

Project 3: Media Ethics
For this project, I chose to explore the use of social media in storytelling, inspired by the promotional rollout for the movie Missing. I wanted to apply concepts learned in this class to real-world examples, and reflecting on the Missing campaign led me to consider other platforms, such as Netflix and Hulu, and how they use social media, particularly X (formerly Twitter), to promote upcoming films and shows.
As I developed the project, I realized there was much more I wanted to include, but was constrained by the time limitations. While relating the examples to the topic, everything began to come together, demonstrating how popular media accounts effectively use social media strategies. In addition to Wendy’s X account, I could have also highlighted Duolingo’s recent social media engagement or Lionsgate’s TikTok page, which is known for posting humorous edits and playful content about their movies.
Creating a distinct social media persona is a powerful tool for brands, and I aimed to showcase how these organizations leverage social media to reach and engage their audiences. By telling compelling stories through their online presence, these brands maximize their reach and interaction, building strong connections with their followers.

Project 5: Final Project (Teaser)
This is a brief, social media-friendly teaser for the final project. The 30-second clip is designed to generate interest in academic coaching and provide viewers with information on how to access these resources.
Project 5: Final Project
For this project, I aimed to highlight the value of academic coaching and its potential benefits for students on campus. When I first sought out an academic coach, I wasn’t entirely sure how it would benefit me. However, I quickly found that my coach helped me improve my time management skills and carve out personal time outside of my school responsibilities, which was especially helpful since I tend to be highly focused on academics.
Beyond academic support, I discovered that having an academic coach can provide much more. My coach, Ms. Mitchell, became a valuable resource and a friendly face on campus. Through our conversations, I gained not just academic guidance, but also a supportive connection, which I truly appreciated.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work with her, as she became both a trusted advisor and a confidant. Her support has been invaluable, and I hope this video will help bring more awareness to the academic coaching services on campus, encouraging others to take advantage of this underutilized resource and experience the same benefits I did.
For this project, I aimed to create something simple and relatable for J-School students. I chose to highlight the work of an editor at Journey, showcasing how we accomplish a great deal while still having fun. This project marked my first experience storyboarding before filming, which greatly improved the efficiency of the process. By planning my shots in advance, I was able to capture everything in under 15 minutes, though several takes were required to ensure the quality of the footage.
While using a storyboard made filming easier, it introduced a challenge in terms of managing the length of each clip and seamlessly piecing everything together. The biggest hurdle during editing was condensing the footage to fit within the 30-second limit. With numerous clips to work with and a desire to include them all, I had to make careful decisions about which moments were most essential to the story. As I edited, I focused on ensuring the narrative flowed smoothly, often relying on earlier clips to convey meaning and minimize repetition.
